Team Bios

Brian D. Busch
Brian D. Busch is a Distinguished Scientist at ZINK Imaging where he is a member of the Image Science Laboratory. His work at ZINK Imaging focuses on overcoming the innate cussedness of inanimate objects, especially those used in thermal printing.

Prior to joining ZINK Imaging, Dr. Busch worked for Polaroid Corporation for 5 years as a member of the Image Science Laboratory. While at Polaroid, Dr. Busch became an expert on several aspects of thermal printing, including numerical modeling, color mapping and calibration, crystallization kinetics, marketing, gravure coating, image quality analysis, mechanical design for manufacturing, firmware development, graphical user interface design and system integration.

Dr. Busch also served as a Science Teacher Trainer volunteer in the U.S. Peace Corps, working with the Ministry of Education in Kpalime, Togo to improve the quality of middle-school science teaching in that West African nation. Dr. Busch credits the Peace Corps for giving him the skills necessary to sit though an all-afternoon staff meeting without hurting anyone.

Dr. Busch received a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics from Cornell University, both with distinction, as well as Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Physics from Harvard University.

His hobbies include sailing, cycling and drinking tea.
