Chien Liu joined ZINK at its birth in 2005. He is a member of the Image Science Lab and is a co-inventor of the fundamental patent of ZINK technology. Since then he has been contributing to the ZINK technology in the modeling and experimentation of dye forming chemistry, system optimization, thermal print head design, printing method, power management, mechanical design, and image quality.
Dr. Liu was a member of the Image Science Laboratory at Polaroid for five years. Prior to Polaroid, he worked on cold atoms and ultra slow light at the Rowland Institute for Science. His 2001 paper on reducing the speed of light to zero has been cited by over 400 scientific papers as of Nov. 2005.
Prior to Rowland, he worked on scanning tunneling microscopy and x-ray optics at Harvard University. His paper on the long propagation of x-ray waves on a whispering gallery wave guide received editorial reviews from several scientific and technological journals.
He received his B. A. in physics from National Taiwan University and M. A. and Ph. D. in applied physics from Harvard University.
