Team Bios

Stephen J. Telfer
Stephen J. Telfer is Vice President and Senior Research Fellow at ZINK Imaging, where he leads the Chemistry and Media Development group. Steve is also a patent agent and ZINK Imaging's leading patent holder. He previously spent 17 years in Research and Development at Polaroid Corporation, where he was most recently Divisional Vice President and Senior Science and Technology Fellow.

While at Polaroid Corporation, he originated the concept and the dye-forming chemistry of the ZINK medium, and invented the Opal thermal transfer technology that was the basis for Polaroid's two-second photo printing kiosk. He also developed laser-exposed thermal media, a silverless photographic system, and technology for three-dimensional display.

Prior to joining Polaroid Corporation, Dr. Telfer held post-doctoral positions at Stanford University and at the University of California, Berkeley. While at the University of California, he conceived of and helped develop CAVEAT, a database to guide molecular design.

Dr. Telfer received a Master of Arts degree in Natural Sciences (with first class honors) and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Chemistry from the University of Cambridge, Clare College. He was named Distinguished Corporate Inventor by the American Society of Patent Holders in 1993. He is the inventor of 52 issued United States Patents.
