William T. Vetterling
William T. Vetterling, Ph.D. is a Research Fellow at ZINK Imaging, serving as chairman of the Image Science Laboratory. He is a co-inventor of the ZINK photo-printing system, and has contributed to the ZINK technology for thermal management, dot placement, media coding, power management, image processing and print head design.

Prior to joining ZINK Imaging, Dr. Vetterling was with Polaroid Corporation for 21 years, undertaking laboratory research and computer-modeling studies of digital imaging systems, including CCD, CID and CMOS imagers for electronic photography, photodiodes, color liquid-crystal displays, solid state lasers, HDTV cameras and several novel printing technologies.

Dr. Vetterling was also a member of the physics faculty of Harvard University for nine years, becoming an associate professor in 1980 and serving on the Faculty Council of the University for two years. From 1982 to 1984 he acted as a consultant to Polaroid Corporation, joining the company in 1984 to assist in the development of a center for microelectronics research.

In addition to his work in experimental physics and computer modeling, Dr. Vetterling is co-author of the award-winning Numerical Recipes series of books and software, which are used worldwide as a reference for computer methods in scientific research, and is vice-president of Numerical Recipes Software. He has published over 60 scientific articles and books, and has 10 issued patents.

Dr. Vetterling received a Bachelor of Arts in physics, summa cum laude, from Amherst College, and Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in solid-state physics from Harvard University.
