ZINK Press Releases
"The unusual paper is the creation of former employees of Polaroid who originated the process there. They spun off as a separate company, Zink Imaging, in 2005 after Polaroid’s bankruptcy and eventual sale to the Petters Group Worldwide in Minnetonka, Minn. The Alps Electric Company in Tokyo will make the printers."

ZINK Imaging, makers of the award-winning ZINK, Zero Ink digital printing technology, today announced that it has been chosen by AlwaysOn as one of the Northeast 100 Top Private Companies. The first-annual Northeast 100 list was compiled by the AlwaysOn editorial panel. In order to be eligible for the list, companies in the Northeastern United States had to be creating new business opportunities in high-growth markets, demonstrating significant market traction and pursuing game-changing technology in a key sector. AlwaysOn received hundreds of nominations for this year's list.
ZINK- Zero Ink- technology prints full-color digital images without cartridges or ribbons. ZINK renders images using a single thermal print head that passes over a coated medium infused with layers of dye crystals. Using timed heat pulses and temperatures, ZINK melts these crystals to release colors that then combine to produce photographic-quality images.

At the new offices of Zink Imaging Inc. in Bedford, the machine shop is full of equipment that once belonged to Polaroid Corp., and the bookshelves of the start-up's library are lined with ex-Polaroid tomes.

Polaroid has development an ultrasmall printer for digital photos that provides the same instant gratification its cameras are renowned for.
