Polaroid ZINK Printer Officially Announced and Priced

The Polaroid PoGo uses Zero Ink (ZINK) technology that is actually embedded into a photo paper, called ZINK Photo Paper. The special paper is durable and contains colorless cyan, yellow, and magenta dye crystals. So instead of using traditional ink cartridges to spray color onto the paper, the PoGo printer applies heat onto the ZINK Photo Paper to activate the colorless crystals—generating full colored photos to share instantly.

Polaroid takes another shot at pictures

Here's how it works: You fill the PoGo with 10 sheets of ZINK photo paper, which are embedded with billions of dye crystals. You then pair the PoGo with a phone via Bluetooth and then print from your photo library. The PoGo pulls the paper past a heater that blasts the paper with heat pulses, triggering different color crystals. The paper comes out dry and can be used a sticker, thanks to a peel-off backing.

Polaroid PoGo printer and ZINK technology reinvent instant photography

More pointedly, although modern convenience allows digital camera and mobile phone users to happily snap images whenever they choose, actually printing those pictures still requires the delayed connection to a waiting home PC or a memory card trip to the nearest photo print establishment -- both of which Polaroid is sidestepping via its newly launched PoGo Instant Mobile Printer.
